SAFER STREETS FOR URBAN CYCLISTS
CONCEPTING, INDUSTRIAL DESIGN, ELECTRONICS, PROTOTYPING, AI & MACHINE LEARNING
Urban streets are extremely hazardous for cyclists. Tether is a smart bike technology that uses state of the art sensors and projections to communicate with other road users and use real time local data to help cyclists plot safer routes.
This was a project developed during the first lockdown of the COVID pandemic 2020. Since then we have launched a successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter and worked with early adopters and couriers. Leveraging cycling data to create insights around improving route planning and improving city infrastructure.
DESIGNED AND BUILT WITH BIKERS
Early concepts and prototypes were explored behind closed doors to keep development out of the public domain. Rapid prototyping allowed the design and engineering team to quickly prototype and iterate to refine during ride alongs with couriers, cycling commuters and build an early adopter community to validate the concepts.
COMMUNITY POWERED NAVIGATION
Every ride from cyclists is used to understand road traffic better in real time. Overtakes are recorded and using GPS plotted onto heatmaps to understand live traffic conditions and road hazards, allowing cyclists to plan and see traffic conditions in real time as they travel.
CROWDFUNDED INNOVATION: LAUNCHING A MOVEMENT FOR SAFER CITIES
Goya launched a crowdfunding campaign, building an early adopter community of cyclists excited to improve urban cycling. This collaborative community is working with us closely to improve our understanding of roads and refine the product in subsequent releases.
